Dr. Che Colpitts joined the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen’s University in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in Molecular Virology. Following BSc and MSc degrees in biochemistry from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, she obtained her PhD in virology from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Her PhD research aimed to characterize the antiviral mechanisms of novel broad-spectrum viral entry inhibitors, focusing on hepatitis C virus. She then moved to the University of Strasbourg (France) for postdoctoral training, where she focused on HCV and HBV entry mechanisms and entry inhibitors. Subsequently, Dr. Colpitts was a postdoctoral research associate at University College London (UK), where she characterized the role of cellular cyclophilins in HCV innate immune evasion. Her postdoctoral research was supported by fellowships from CIHR and CanHepC. At Queen's University, the Colpitts lab studies virus entry, virus-host interactions and viral innate immune evasion by positive-sense RNA viruses, using hepatitis C virus as a model.
